What is on the Compliance Officer’s agenda?
We’re proud to launch the fourth edition of the Nordic Ethics & Compliance Survey.
The role of the Compliance Officer is evolving rapidly. New regulation, growing expectations from leadership, and developments such as artificial intelligence, digitalisation and ESG are changing both the scope of compliance work and the way compliance functions operate.
The Nordic Ethics & Compliance Survey 2026 explores how compliance is organised and positioned within organisations, what shapes the daily work of Compliance Officers, and which developments will influence the profession in the years ahead.
The survey is conducted by Nordic Business Ethics in collaboration with the European Network of Compliance Officers (ENFCO).
The anonymous survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and is open until 16.10.2026 for everyone who works in the field of Ethics & Compliance in the Nordics.
A Nordic perspective within a European study
Nordic Business Ethics Initiative has conducted surveys for several years to strengthen understanding of how organisations across the Nordic region approach ethics and compliance.
The 2026 survey takes a new approach. By using ENFCO’s established European survey framework, the study will provide insights into Nordic organisations while also creating opportunities to compare the findings with data from other European countries.
This broader perspective can help compliance professionals better understand shared challenges, different operating models and the developments shaping the profession across Europe.
What does the survey cover?
The survey examines the role and realities of compliance from several perspectives, including:
- the position, independence and mandate of the compliance function
- reporting lines, team structures, resources and budgets
- responsibilities, priorities and challenges in daily compliance work
- collaboration with Legal, Risk, Internal Audit, HR, ESG, IT and other functions
- the organisational impact and effectiveness of compliance
- the use of generative AI and digital tools
- future priorities and the skills compliance professionals will need
The survey also considers how compliance is perceived within organisations and what would help the function create greater impact.
Why participate?
Each response helps create a more comprehensive picture of how compliance works in practice.
By taking part, you will contribute to new Nordic and European insights into the role, operating environment and future of compliance. The findings will support benchmarking, professional discussion and the continued development of compliance functions.
Follow-up interviews
A limited number of follow-up interviews will also be conducted to provide a deeper understanding of the experiences behind the survey responses.
