Ethics Talk Live on Responsible Leadership

MAY 11 2021 · Virtual from HELSINKI

 15-16 EEST

Increased demands on companies to show “responsible leadership” has witnessed that sustainability reports and value statements are not sufficient. Investors, the capital markets, employees and the general public expects companies to take responsibility, to behave ethically in all aspects of business. Usually the value becomes evident in a scandal, when responsible leadership is lacking. Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects should be prioritized while generating good financial results.

Join us on May 11 at 3 PM EEST for the EthicsTalk Live on Responsible Leadership.

We will host a live streamed EthicsTalk show together with our collaboration partners DLA Piper and MySpeaker.

With us we will have Mika Vehviläinen, a seasoned CEO with experience from Nokia, Finnair and Cargotec. Mika was a speaker at our first Business Ethics Day in 2019, his perspective was praised by the audience and he was rated as the best speaker. Mika is honest about his personal failures, ethical dilemmas and decision making in the grey zone. He is a firm believer of that ethical business is the only business that makes sense although it requires hard and persistent work.

We will also be joined by Niko Pakalén, a seasoned investor and Board professional. Niko is a partner at Cevian Capital, an active ownership firm who acquires significant minority ownership in European public companies and works to advance sustainable and responsible business. Cevian Capital recently announced that they will actively drive integration of ESG metrics in management incentive programs to ensure long-term value creation. We will hear from Niko how far an investor should be willing to go to advance ethical business.

As Mika and Niko are both Board professionals, we will also share our perspective on what Board members should do to support Ethics & Compliance officers. We will also discuss the risk of that Board reporting will become a source of false comfort and what they should look out for.

The EthicsTalk LIVE is hosted in cooperation with DLA Piper and with us we will have Anne Lojamo, who will bring the perspective of an external advisor. How can you spot irresponsible leadership, and more importantly what can you as an external advisor do about this?
