Is the Ethics & Compliance profession losing its way?
One key theme in the Nordic Business Ethics Initiative’s Nordic Ethics & Compliance 2025 Survey is the trend to keep compliance profession from being reduced to a purely regulatory, check-the-box legal compliance role. Regulatory and geopolitical uncertainty is pushing many E&C teams toward a mindset of “What does the law require us to do?”—resulting in a minimum-compliance approach.
This marks a profound shift from the previous emphasis on culture and ethical decision-making. Yet we know that most scandals and poor judgment calls do not stem from failing to meet legal requirements—they arise from flawed cultures. Sometimes these failures lead to convictions; more often, they lead to headlines, loss of trust, and loss of value.
Join Anna & Niina and Alison Taylor as they explore what this means for the future of Ethics & Compliance and Sustainability professions—and how we can recalibrate our purpose to keep ethics at the heart of business. Discussion points include:
- Why human judgment is still the most valuable asset?
- How E&C can shift from control to business partnership?
- What skills will define the next generation of compliance leaders?
